Hi All,

Our little guy has big issues with food and they seem to be worsening.  He is hyper focused on it - who's eating what, how much, etc.  He tends to overeat and is drawn to really unhealthy stuff.  We have always given him plenty and tried feed him a very healthy diet.  Maybe that is part of the problem?  Another part of the picture is that he has bad acid reflux, so we have to exclude some things from his diet and I think that feeds the whole problem.  He feels deprived when he sees others eating things he "can't."  He's almost six now and came home at 13 months.  He's quite the little chunk and I'm worried about his long term health, weight, etc.  I could go on and on, but you probably get the picture!    Can anyone recommend books to read or other resources that have been helpful?  I want to help him with this in a way that empowers him and minimizes unhealthy power struggles.  Thanks so much in advance.

Yes!! I read "Love me, feed me" by Dr. Katja Rowell and it addressed ALL our issues. She is a feeding doctor who specializes in feeding issues associated with adopted children. WE also had an in-home consultation with her last week that was PHENOMENAL. She also does phone consultation for folks not living in Minneapolis/St. Paul. She is very experienced and was able to develop a clear, specific plan for all the issues we were facing. THe change/improvement has been amazing. Can't say enough good things. Here is her website:

Thank you so much for the reply!  I already had it in my amazon basket.  lol  So great to get the recommendation.  I'll order it now.  As always I'm grateful for this forum.  Our little guy is just the best, but this is one area where we really struggle.  Thanks again!

Susie, there is a facebook group specifically for ET adoptive parents dealing with food issues within their family. I'm not actually part of the group any more, but if you pm me you fb name I can try and connect you with someone to invite you into the group.

Just wanted to say how much Love Me, Feed Me has helped us!  We have been transitioning to the Trust Model of feeding for a couple of weeks and already see improvement!  Mealtime is joyful once again.  So relieved and grateful!
